Thylacosmilus by SizzyBubbles Thylacosmilus by SizzyBubbles
"Don't call me a Smilodon!"

One of my fav prehistoric mammals and a marsupial! Its downright impossible to find much of anything on this guy, even in my marsupial book! So i found a pic of a skull in a book and just look and restorations from paleo artists to come out with the body. I was really trying NOT to make it to big cat-like, but they guy was really trying to look like one. Damn him!
So here ya go. The coloring job is a bit sloppy AND i can't find my blender pen. At least is finally done.

The other day; my friends went out to the park and played frizbe! Arrg! And i was stuck at work all day! I wanna run 'round out side!! Wanna-see-outside...

i think that this is most real reconstruction of thylacosmilus. Many people draw it like cats.

I absoloutely love this. Too many artists just draw them as big cats. This on the other hand portrays the marsupial side of it nicely

Do you think that these things may've encountered real Smilodons?

You should do thylacoleo next1 I love these guys, I have a thing for marsupials obviously. And it's tough to not get it to look too much like a big cat thanks to the covergent evolution, most reconstructions I've seen end up looking like cats, but some seem to have thrown in a Australian possum or quoll type nose on it.

Oh i'll draw one eventually, i want to. You? Marsupials? Noooooo =P
I know, for most reconstructions for this guy they all looked like big cats (of what i could find...). So i did the best that i could, think the torso is supposed to be longer though... hmmm...

Ooo, this guy's neat!! And I think I like the "sloppy" coloring job as you put it. Again, your anatomy and attention to detail is excellent:).

The body kinda reminds me of a tassie devil...but heavier. Your have a great eye for anatomy.

Oh, i know what you mean with wanting to be outside...we don't even have windows at my workplace...when I finish work I stare at the 'outsideness' and smile...and people look at me funny....:|

at first it did look like a Smilodon,
but he (she?, lol)
looks a bit more like it's in the weasel (spelling?) family
the body is more lean than a big cat and the feet/paws are much more slender, and the tail, they're all too different than a big cat, ppl shouldn't be too confused ^^
very interesting pattern, i like the white spotty areas and the black strip
very cool, good job!!

no i said that at first i had thought it was a smilodon, i had taken a closer look, and realized it wasn't
i never said that it was
i also read the description as well

i did a double take, i had glanced at it and thought it was something, but looked closer and it was something else
